Va. Marriage Debate A Hotbed of Irony

Thanks, Carstonio! Terms like agenda, lifestyle and activist judges are conservative ploys to liken GLBT Americans to Communists and terrorists. My agenda is much the same as other middle-aged men in my office, except that I havent passed on my genetic material to another generation: I wake up next to the person I love more than any other. I work out at the gym, so I have a shot at lasting longer than my father and being around to pass on wisdom to yet another generation. I make a valued contribution to my workplace in exchange for money and benefits, even if my spouse and I are screwed tax-wise. I volunteer to make my community a better place to live. And my spouse and I romance each other every day and have mind-bending, life-affirming sex as frequently as we can. Geez…. now, where do I make time for ruining millions of male-femal marriages, malparenting, and plotting the demise of Western civilization?

Brucerealtor, while I do not know what causes homosexuality, I reject the notion that sexual desire is amorphous. I find it insulting, because it suggests that men in particular are nothing more than life-support systems for penises. Plus, the claim that orientation is determined by the first sexual experience sounds a little like anti-gay scare propaganda. Many boys have experiences that could be called homosexuality-lite while growing up, yet the vast majority grow up to be straight. Personally, I knew I was straight long before I knew what sex was.

The state can claim right to determine meaning of civil marriage, but whether/how that affects religious rituals is not clear – this time it seems well-meaning folks are adding to confusion?
