-Local legislators say they want to revisit the state's marriage law after a 22-year-old Nebraska man brought his pregnant 13-year-old girlfriend to Kansas to marry her. Canadian Prime Minister Loses Bid to Revisit Gay Marriage Law
Canada's House of Commons rejected a move Thursday by Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper to reopen debate on a national law permitting same-sex marriages. The House, by a vote of 175 to 123, defeated the motion brought by Harper to fulfill a campaign promise to opponents of same-sex marriage. Thirteen members of his Conservative Party voted against the motion, reflecting a desire by Parliament not to reopen the issue.

An Oklahoma congressman introduced a bill July 22 that goes a step beyond current law by banning same-sex "marriage" nationwide -- including in Massachusetts -- and unlike a constitutional amendment, requires only a simple majority to pass. Called the National Marriage Law, the bill, if passed, would supercede state laws, thereby voiding Massachusetts' law legalizing same-sex "marriage." Canada to review same-sex marriage law
Canada's parliament will be asked to vote next week on whether to revisit a 2005 law that made same-sex marriage legal, a member of the government told Reuters on Wednesday. The ruling Conservatives promised the vote as part of their campaign in the run-up to the January election, which they won with a plurality of seats.
