Spanish magistrate resigns to protest same-sex marriage law

A Spanish judge has resigned his post in protest against the country’s new law granting legal recognition to same-sex marriages. Antonio Alonso told the Spanish EFE news service that he had stepped down from his post as magistrate in the town of Pinto because “it is impossible for me, as a magistrate, to present an appeal for unconstitutionality against the law which allows these marriages.” Alonso said that he resigned because it was “morally impossible” for him to preside at marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples. |
