China’s college students get okay to tie knot
Starting from the fall semester, students reaching the legal age for marriage don't have to ask their university for approval when they plan to tie the knot, Ministry of Education officials said yesterday at a press conference in Beijing to announce revised guidelines on university students. The current campus regulations were issued in 1990. But it doesn't mean the government encourages collegians to marry, said Sun Xiaobing, director of the ministry's Legal Office. Students should concentrate on their studies, Sun said. "College students should handle properly the issues of studies, marriage and family. They aren't financially prepared yet for marriage."
New marriage law comes into effect
A new law comes into effect today which allows couples to marry in venues other than churches and registry offices for the first time. These changes follow a sharp increase in the number of civil weddings in the last decade. People can now apply to get married in a number of places, subject to approval from the authorities. Vatican Targets Gay Marriage Laws
The Vatican launched a global campaign against gay marriages Thursday, warning Catholic politicians that support of same-sex unions was "gravely immoral" and urging non-Catholics to join the offensive. The Vatican's orthodoxy watchdog, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, issued a 12-page set of guidelines with the approval of Pope John Paul II in a bid to stem the increase in laws granting legal rights to homosexual unions in Europe and North America. Bring on new marriage law
Let's begin by assuming that stupidity is an innate characteristic that some people are born with. They don't choose to be stupid, they just are. American education institutions reward intelligence and academic performance, and these people are very clearly at a disadvantage and will not receive the same benefits as those who are smart: benefits such as acceptance to a college, scholarships and even higher paying jobs. Does this disadvantage entitle them to be classified as a protected class? As such, they would have the right to appeal to the Constitution's equal protection clause and demand that they receive compensation
